Abstract: the export trade has long been an important player in China's economic growth. Although the quantity of China’ s export products takes up a significant share in the world market, their quality has not been as impressive as the quantity. In other words, the development of product quality has not kept pace with that of the quantity. The recent entry of China’ s economic development into a‘new normal state’means that the traditional extensive growth mode is very difficult to sustain and the nation can no longer focus on pursuing the scale of economic growth only. The quality of the economic development is therefore drawing more attention. In this context, finding a new drive for substantial economic development has been an issue of most important theoretical and practical values in the present day China. From the perspective of the supply-side reform, any improvement on the micro product quality will be helpful to any new practical solution to the recent challenge. Based on this notion, this paper, by drawing upon an empirical study, tries to help readers understand how the export product quality has an impact on the regional economic growth. With a general model set up displaying the relation ship between micro product quality and macro economic growth quality, a series of authoritative survey data were selected for the study, which included the quality index of consumer products for export along with the quality index of the economic growth in 20 cities and 13 industries in Guangdong from 2011 to 2015. After the panel data were formed, a panel data regression model was performed to assess the real impact of micro product quality on the quality of macro economic growth. The Hausman Test then applied revealed that the random effect model was the most suitable one to be used. The regression results showed that the export product quality had a significant effect on the quality of regional economic growth, and, additionally, that the regression coefficient of the product quality was positive, which meant that any improvement on the export product quality would raise the quality of the regional economic growth. Furthermore, a comparison was made of the structural differential impacts of product quality on the quality of the regional economic growth, which, theoretically, should fall into four categories, namely, economic growth, quality structure, living standard and development potential. The study indicated that the latter three categories were no less affected by the improvement on export product quality than
the economic growth, with the development potential being the most hit. The conclusion thus reached that any improvement on the micro quality of export products will positively advance the macro quality of the regional economic development confirms that any elevation of the export product quality will be of great extensive significance for the local economy to survive in China’ s‘new normal state’of economic development. Finally suggestions to the government on the improvement of export product quality are made as below. •establishing the values of quality and innovation as the targets of production; •amplifying the effect of scale in quality improvement; •strengthening effective supervision of product quality.
