On January 19th at 8:30 am, IQDS 2016 Annual Review and Commendation Conference was held in the multifunctional hall. Cheng Hong, Dean of IQDS made a review of the results achieved and existing problems in 2016 and deployed the overall planning in 2017. The meeting was presided over by Song Qiong, Deputy Dean of IQDS, and all the teachers and students attended the meeting.
2016, is the first year of the transformation and upgrading of IQDS in all aspects. With a year’s enormous efforts, IQDS have obtained great achievements in scientific research, think-tank services, international development, talent fostering and other careers and taken a solid step in its course of transformation and upgrading.
In scientific research, both the quantity and the quality have increased. In 2016, more than 42 papers (4.2 per capita) in total were published in CSSCI and above journals, an increase of 280% compared to 2015; 7 important instructions were issued by the governmental leaders above provincial and ministerial level; 13 research projects were approved, an increase of 16% than 2015, and among the projects, the experts of IQDS successfully applied for 1 major project supported by National Social Science Foundation and served as head of its subproject; the scientific research funds totaled RMB 9,478,700 (947,800 per capita). The article titled by “Quality innovation: foundation of ‘13th Five-Year’ development and quality improvement”, published by experts of IQDS, was reproduced entirely by Xinhua Digest (Issue 8, 2016) in 6 full pages.
Based on the data of China Employer-Employee Survey (CEES), IQDS has established a long-term stable partnership with Stanford University, Hong Kong University Science and Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong and other world-class institutes. 3 faculty members were invited to pay academic visits to Stanford University, one for a year and two for three months. During the visit, 3 seminars and a series of workshop discussions were had in Stanford University and joint research were being conducted with its famous economists.
In think-tank services, an integrated, large-scale output of think-tanks was achieved based on the core resources of the CEES data. Based on the platform of “Luojia Development Think Tank”, 51 papers of think-tank results were continuously produced and submitted to the government and enterprises of all levels including General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and the government and enterprises in Hubei and Guangdong Province. The think tanks were adopted and applied.
In talents fostering, IQDS adhered to international education approaches and the “technology + art + values” training system to improve the capabilities of the students both in quantitative techniques and logic abilities and guide the students in formation of right values. In 2016, 2 doctoral students in IQDS won the second-prize academic innovation scholarship, the winning ratio of which is 80% in the first batch of doctoral students; 2 graduate students were awarded the national scholarship, the winning rate of which was up to 33%.
In development of the journal, Journal of “Macro Quality Research” obtained a reprint rate of 24%; a submission of 300 manuscripts, a rate of 1:5 in acceptance of papers; its newly-added download reached more than 12000 times, 171 times per article on average; the papers funded accounted for 81% in the papers accepted; its composite impact factor was 1.326, ranking eleventh among its counterparts; its comprehensive influence factor was 1.011, ranking eighth among its counterparts. Since its funding for three and a half years (calculated at the end of 2016), a total of 15 issues has been published, and this year, it was reviewed and selected into the source journals of Comprehensive Evaluation Index System of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences (AMI), source journals of “Annual Report for Chinese Academic Journals Impact Factors”, core journals of Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation of Wuhan University (RCCSE), especially successfully into the extended source journals of CSSCI.
Cheng Hong also analyzed the major problems faced in reference to the specific work done in 2016 including the backward thinking of the transformation and upgrading strategies, lagging behind of financial resources and lack of teamwork capabilities.
For the work plan in 2017, Cheng Hong highlighted, in the advent of IQDS’s 10-year founding anniversary, all the staff and students of IQDS should stick to the core values of hardworking and diligence and the down-to-earth attitude, further expand international cooperation, develop quality innovation-oriented think tank, strengthen the construction of oversea talents team, further increase the quality and output of research papers by IQDS faculty members both abroad and at home, upgrade the quality of papers in Journal of Macro Quality Research to a new level, focus on the students’ skills training and values fostering and greatly improve the advanced training business.
Subsequently, excellent staff awardees, student awardees and the outstanding department representative shared their working experience and feelings in their speech.
In the end, Cheng Hong expressed gratitude to the staff and students and encouraged them to work together and strive for a better future for IQDS.
