On October 20, 2018, Professor Hong Cheng and his research team were invited to introduce China Employer-Employee Survey (CEES) data in a variety of academic meetings. A large number of meeting participants were highly interested and intended to cooperate with IQDS in future.
Professor Hong Cheng introduced the CEES survey methods, experience and research products in the seminar titled as “Data of Industrial Transformation and Upgrading in Guangdong Province” organized by Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University (INSE).
China Employer-Employee Survey (CEES) is the first database linking firm performance to employee heterogeneity in China. It was jointly conducted with Stanford University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for a long-term tracking investigation on employers and employees, and its current data involves more than 500 indicators with a coverage of over 1,000 firms and over 20,000 employees.
Professor Hong Cheng and his colleagues also attended the Ninth China Language Economics Forum and made a keynote speech fully introducing the investigation of the CEES survey as well as a series of research results obtained in language economics by using the data. Dr. Siya Gao from IQDS made a presentation entitled “The impact of English competence as human capital on Productivity: an empirical study based on China Employer-Employee Survey (CEES) data”.
The research products and current research progress based on CEES data induced great interest from the participants. In INSE, the experts present all agreed that CEES made big breakthroughs in survey content design and quality control and was essential to study of China’s economic transformation and upgrading. In the Ninth Language Economics Forum, Professor Shao’an Huang, Dean of the Center for Economic Research of Shandong University said, Professor Hong Cheng’s report contributed a lot to the current studies in language economics, and CEES data was of great significance to the study of China’s economic and social development.
